Dear Visitor to www.menorcainfo.net,

This publication has come a long way since its begining in August 2005.
To date we have had over 100,000 website visitors and carry nearly three hundred  advertisers on these pages  -  all contributing services and quality to the islandīs life.
It is important to note that the price of advertising has been reduced to a minimum to carry us through the worst period economically that I can remember since the mid-seventies oil crisis. It is a sad thing to see businesses not being able to afford 40 Euros ( about 35 Pounds )
yearly for a fabulous colour advert in various languages on the Internet !!!?
There has been a constant and rapid increase in building over the past five years or so , which, in turn, has produced wealth, bringing new businesses, pubs, shops and activity until now unprecedented in Menorcaīs history.
This, however,
is drawing to a close, with many businesses  feeling the pinch due to fuel price increases and the subsequent drop in numbers of tourists coming to the island.
Quite suddenly things are slowing down. There is a marked change in attitudes because Menorca has been one of the many places in Spain that has suffered a down-turn in tourism.
Some coastal businesses suffered last year  badly and have closed down, including some of our advertisers.
Winter is always a bit gloomy, so perhaps things will return to normal come the mid- Summertime.
British people coming here will find a relatively quiet place - good infrastructures and almost crime-free  -  although crime is on the increase  -  mainly petty, but some more serious crime is creeping in and even a suspected case of murder of an elderly British ex-pat for his undeclared fortune  -  BY HIS OWN FAMILY MEMBERS ! is being investigated.
If you come to Menorca on holiday, then have a great time. The island is still a beautiful place.
If you are coming to live here,
take care from whom you take advice - all "gold rush "towns have their crooks and con men and you must not always take people at their face value. Make inquiries before committing. Use the Internet.. Write to us if you need assistance or have had a bad experience and we will publish your comments  - this goes especially for lawyers.
www.menorcainfo.net is unique amongst other Internet pages about Menorca because we are involved in its life and actively keep up with events. The publication is answerable to no-one except to our server, Yahoo, who have strict rules of " engagement ". by which we abide - no libel and no personal attacks unless it is proven news and reportable. The Internet provides a platform for the Truth.

I thank you for reading this short editorial and hope you enjoy Menorca when you arrive here.

I would also like to add a comment about some of the e-mails I have received recently.
Apart from being complementary, which pleases me greatly, they point out the dirth of information available on the Internet about Menorca. There is very little that shews people what the island really has to offer.
The websites are all mixed-up and basically  favour hotels and apartments, but giving no real idea of facilities, shops, infrastructure, medicall services etc. I hope to change that drastically.
I have registered a company called www.menorcavideo.com which is to begin filming high quality video to be placed on the Internet with Flash Player giving coverage to most of the resort areas as well as coverage of some of the countryside.
There is nothing at all for the Brits on the Net of this nature, so soon, with the support of local business, you should be able to get a better idea of this wonderful island. I would appreciate your comments.
One final thing  -  I suffered a heart attack in November 2007 which put me in hospital for 3 weeks and then was tansferred to Mallorca where I had an operation to fit a double stent to my collapsed artery ( due to severe and prolonged diabetes since childhood )...
I am recovering, but fell behind on keeping the editorial up-to-date ! Hence the video project is yet to begin.
I am making a donation of drawings to the hospital for their
wonderful care and attention which saved my life. There will be a permanent display in one of the main waiting areas of the new hospital, pending a press release , probably within the next month or so
See
