I was born in England in June 1953 and have lived in Menorca since June 1973. I come from a family with a journalistic, military and artistic background. My father, Frank Cox, a former R.A.F bomber pilot and civil aviation captain, has painted as a professional watercolour artist since 1973, with huge success with both a dedicated local and international following.. My mother, Nancy, was a freelance aviation journalist and aviation safety expert , sitting as a member of the Air Safety Group based in the Houses of Parliament during the late sixties and early seventies and has many journalistic, political and business contacts through her work. My sister, Sue, also was 5 years in the W.R.A.F as an officer and married an Army Air Corps helicopter pilot, now a Lt Colonel and O.B.E. I studied for a B.A Honours degree in tourism at the Sir John Cass School of Business Studies in the City of London before coming to Menorca to live and to start a small business. I was due to go to Hawaii , but my diabetic condition upset my plans to go to the U.S.A. and so changed the course of my life. I speak fluent Spanish and French. After many years on the island, working and including producing daily cartoons for both local newspapers for ten years, ( see www.davidscartoons.info ), I decided to take advantage of the new technologies and the ever-increasing use of the global Internet. I learned how to construct websites with the help of Yahoo technicians from San Francisco in the U.S. and began work on www.menorcainfo.net. The website now carries over 300 advertisers and enjoys up to 2,000 visitors weekly, covering multiple aspects of the islandīs life and commerce. I enjoy the work - I meet many, many people, and hope to make possible, through the website and its clients, a social project to assist youngsters with social-economic problems by involving them in sports. My much disputed building standing alongside the main road between Mahon and Sant Lluis has been a serious problem for me for more than 10 years due to greed and local " interests " , but its illegal seizure has never resulted in a profit for the land-owners due to my on-going fight for Justice. Now, after an Ombudsmanīs ruling from Madrid, I have decided to offer the property to the Consell Insular and the Mahon Town Council with the express condition that it be refurbished and subsequently used as a social centre for youngsters encompassing a wide range of clubs and activities The alternative would be the continuing legal wrangling over the violation of my tenantīs rights for possibly years to come. The agreement to relinquish my hold on the property in order that it should be used for the good of youngsters in the community would be the best solution and prevent the landlord from profiting from the illegal and corrupt eviction of myself and partner from our own construction in 1996, an eviction carried out in such a manner as to result in the theft of the entire contents of the property which vanished without trace within 72 hours of the locks being changed by the land-owners. The judicial authority at the time chose to ignore my protests and denuncias and I was conveniently blamed for the theft of the stock and at the same time, threatened on the telephone, to leave the island or " something could happen to my parents ". So if anyone is in any doubt as to the circumstances of that event, now perhaps it is clearer. Now that I have introduced myself, please enjoy the website. You will find much useful information and I shall attempt to update my editorials more regularly ! David Cox - The Editor. 2007 |
